  • Reading Through the Holidays

    Reading Through the Holidays

The next couple months get loud. Travel, family, schedules that stop being predictable. That’s usually when reading plans quietly stall out, not because anyone decided to stop but because the routine that supported it disappeared for a few weeks.

Nothing changes here. Same chapter of Proverbs matched to the date, same four weekly readings whenever you can fit them in.

If you’re traveling, the whole thing fits on a phone. No books to pack.

If a day gets missed because you’re at your in-laws’ house and reading a Bible chapter wasn’t going to happen, that’s fine. Nothing resets. You pick it back up.

The point isn’t to protect a perfect record through the holidays. It’s to not let a few missed weeks turn into the whole thing quietly disappearing until next year.

  • They’re Not Deciding Against It

    They’re Not Deciding Against It

Most people aren’t deciding not to read the Bible.

    They’re just not deciding anything.

It sits in the background. Something they’ll get to eventually. Something they agree is probably a good idea, but never quite gets a place in the week.

That’s a harder problem than disagreement.

If someone thinks it’s a bad idea, at least they’ve made a decision.

Most people haven’t. They’re in that middle space where nothing happens.

That’s where simple structure helps. Not because it convinces anyone of anything, but because it removes the need to figure out how to start.

You don’t have to map it out. You don’t have to plan a system. You can just open it and follow along.

That’s usually enough to turn “I should do that” into actually doing it.

If this has been useful for you, there’s a good chance someone you know is stuck in that middle space. Not opposed. Just not moving.

  • The Calendar Isn’t the Plan

    The Calendar Isn’t the Plan

Somewhere along the way, starting a Bible reading plan got tied to January 1st. Like the two things are supposed to happen together.

    They don’t have to.

This plan is built around the day of the month, not the day of the year. Whatever today’s date is, that’s your starting chapter of Proverbs. No lookup required. No feeling behind because it’s October instead of January.

Most people who wait for a “real” starting point never actually start. Something interrupts January before it gets going. Then it’s February, and starting late feels worse than not starting, so they wait for next year instead.

That cycle can run for years.

The plan doesn’t ask you to wait for anything. It just asks what today’s date is and hands you a chapter.

That’s available every day of the year, including today.

  • It’s Smaller Than They Think

    It’s Smaller Than They Think

A lot of people hear “read the Bible” and picture something bigger than it actually is. Long sessions, complicated plans, needing to understand everything, needing to do it the right way. That’s usually enough to keep it filed under “I’ll get to it eventually.”

What changes it isn’t motivation. It’s scale.

One chapter of Proverbs and a few readings spread across the week doesn’t feel like a project. It’s something you fit into a normal day without rearranging anything else, not a system to manage or something to master, just small enough to repeat.

If this has helped you stay consistent, someone you know is probably avoiding it for the same reason, picturing something bigger than what it actually is.

Share this page, or just send them the link.

They can look at it and decide for themselves. Nothing lost either way.

  • There Is No Catch-Up

    There Is No Catch-Up

People like the idea of catching up. It feels responsible. You missed something, so you go back and make it right.

That works in some areas. Not so much here.

You miss a few days and decide you’ll make up for it later. That sounds reasonable, but now the amount of reading has doubled. Miss again and you’re even further behind.

Pretty soon you’re not behind by a little. You’ve built something you’re not going to sit down and do in one pass.

At that point most people stop. Not because they changed their mind, but because the cost of “doing it right” got too high.

The plan isn’t built around finishing perfectly. It’s built around staying in it.

If you miss time, nothing is broken. There isn’t anything to repair. You just pick up where we are and keep going.

What you skipped isn’t lost. You’ll come back around to it.

Trying to recover everything at once usually leads to doing none of it. Just pick it back up and keep it going this time.

    Readings for 9/20-9/26

Psalms wraps up Monday. A hundred and fifty of them, done.

From there the minor prophets move fast. Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and Haggai all get underway this week, most of them just a few pages long.

Nothing else changes. Same chapter of Proverbs each day, same four weekly readings whenever you get to them.

  • Nobody Is Watching

    Nobody Is Watching

No leaderboard. No streak counter. No public tally of who kept up and who didn’t.

Miss a week and nobody sees it. Read every day for a year straight and nobody sees that either.

Most habits fall apart under an audience one way or another. People perform for it, or they slip once and quietly quit so nobody notices. Neither problem has anywhere to attach itself once the audience is gone.

You read because you’re reading. Miss a few days and nothing gets reported, you just pick the current week back up.

    Nobody’s watching. Read anyway.

  • Readings for August 30 – September 5

    Readings for August 30 – September 5

School is back in session for most families this week, which means mornings look different than they did a month ago. Different routines, different amount of time, different amount of energy left over by evening.

The reading doesn’t need to compete with any of that. It’s small enough to fit into whatever the new routine ends up looking like, whether that’s first thing in the morning or whenever things finally settle down at night.

This week also closes out August and crosses into September. Proverbs finishes its cycle on the 31st and starts back at chapter 1. Same chapters, different read, same as always when that happens. Ezekiel keeps moving forward through the rest of the week.

  • Readings for August 23–29

    Readings for August 23–29

Ezekiel picks up the pace this week. Four straight sections, all from the same book, all moving in order.

That kind of consistency can actually make a week easier. There’s no jumping between books, no adjusting to a different style halfway through. You’re in one place, and you stay there for a few days before moving on.

Worth noting heading into the end of the month, some schedules are starting to shift around as summer winds down. If this week feels a little busier than the last one, that’s probably why. The readings stay the same size either way.
