Even If The Numbers Are Wrong

I ran across this article the other day and thought it was interesting.

It talks about Bible reading being on the rise again, especially among Gen Z.

According to the data cited, the percentage of people who say they read the Bible weekly dropped from about 39% in 2000 to roughly 30% in 2024. But this year, that number reportedly jumped to 42%.

I’ll be honest — those numbers sound inflated to me.

I’ve always suspected that when people are asked questions like that, many give the answer they think they should give rather than what they actually do.

Saying and doing are often two very different things.

Still, even with that caveat, the direction matters.

The trend is up.

And what stood out to me more than the percentages was how many of these younger readers are approaching Scripture. Not as background noise. Not as a verse pulled for a meme. But as something to be read, wrestled with, and understood over time.

That’s encouraging.

Understanding doesn’t usually come first. Reading does.

That’s part of why His Word Together exists.

No commentary.
No pressure to have it all figured out.
Just a simple, repeatable plan to keep reading.

If more people are opening the Bible again — even imperfectly — that’s a good thing.

Here’s the article if you want to read it yourself:
