  • You’re Running Out of Week

    You’re Running Out of Week

If you planned to get the readings done earlier this week and haven’t yet, this is your nudge.

Not a guilt trip. Just a reminder.

This isn’t one of those things that magically gets easier if you wait longer. If anything, the longer you put it off, the heavier it feels. Five quiet minutes today is better than a perfect plan that never happens.

If you’ve fallen behind, just pick up where we are, instead of letting the piled up readings discourage you.

While you’re at it consider sharing the site with one person you know. Not a blast. Not a post everywhere. Just one person who might actually read.

Just share this email with them, they can click the link below which will take them to the site where they can check it out. And if they like it they can sign up.

Let them know they don’t need to “catch up.”
They don’t need to wait until January when we start over.

This is an ongoing reading plan. You just start where we are.

Read what’s in front of you. Let it hit you where you are right now. Next year, you’ll get the earlier parts then. Nothing is lost.

    That’s enough.

Now close this and go read.

You can sign up here and get the weekly readings (and other posts) in your email here:

  • Read Now. Worry About Expertise Later.

Read Now. Worry About Expertise Later.

If you spend any time looking at stuff like this, people are always arguing over which Bible version is best. Or which one is most true. Or which one is closest to the real thing.

A lot of them also insinuate that any discrepancies or differences are evidence of a conspiracy to hide the truth from people.

Maybe they are. I don’t really know enough to say. But if you believe in an Almighty God and that the Bible is His book, it’s probably safe to say He wouldn’t let the truth stay hidden forever.

If you’re actually looking for the truth, I’d bet He will find a way to make sure you get it. So keep reading. Keep looking. Let Him worry about that part.

You can think about it the same way some people talk about guns.

If you spend any time comparing guns online, you’ll see people arguing about stopping power and insisting that owning certain guns is a waste of time because they’re inferior to their favorite.

But here’s the thing. What actually matters is whether it fits your hand and whether you will carry it. If it’s too bulky or too big for your hand, you’ll probably leave it at home. And a gun sitting at home is worth zero if you actually need it. Compared to the “inferior” gun you will carry.

    Same idea here.

Even if a translation isn’t “ideal” in some abstract sense, it might be ideal for you. And that counts for a lot.

If you stick with this, you’re going to read the Bible once a year. Every year. You’re not locked into one version for life. Read one this year. Try a different one next year.

You might like it better. You might not. You may not even notice much difference.

Decide for yourself. Pick one you will actually read.

You can access plenty of translations electronically at no cost. Skip around. Try different ones.

    Just keep reading.

  • Spoiler Alert: The Last Word Is Amen

Spoiler Alert: The Last Word Is Amen

When I was in elementary school, we had to do book reports on books we checked out of the library.

Yes, I’m old enough to remember when people read actual books.

I remember one of my friends telling me that whenever he got a new book, he would read the last page first. That always struck me as odd, though I’ve since learned it’s more common than people admit.

Kind of like reading the Bible.

People who actually do it usually don’t make a big deal about it.
And people who make a big deal about it often don’t do much reading.

I thought about that this week because this Sunday marks the final readings of the year. We’ll finish Revelation. The last page.

    Amen.

So if you haven’t signed up yet but have been thinking about it, this is actually a good moment to start. Read the ending, then start fresh in January.

And if you’re not a “read the last page first” person, I’d still suggest not waiting until January to sign up. Life has a habit of getting in the way.

Things you fully intend to do later have a way of slipping by.

It doesn’t cost anything to join.

So if you’re planning to start next year anyway, you might as well sign up now and remove the friction.
