  • You Don’t Need to Start in January

You Don’t Need to Start in January

January works fine. So does July.

Most people who are waiting for January to start reading the Bible have been waiting for a while. Last January came and went. This one will too, probably, unless something changes before then.

The appeal of January 1 is that it feels like a clean slate. You’re not behind yet. Everything is still possible. But that feeling lasts about a week, and then you’re just reading in January instead of July, which isn’t actually different in any way that matters.

This plan runs on a yearly cycle and resets every January. Which means if you start now, you’ll come back around to what you missed. You’re not joining late. You’re just joining where we are.

The middle of summer is actually a reasonable time to start. Schedules are a little looser. There’s less pressure than the fall and winter tend to bring. You’re not fighting holiday routines or end-of-year chaos.

You just start with this week’s readings and keep going.

The right time to start is when you decide to. That can be today.

    Readings for July 12 – July 18

    Still summer.

If you’ve been consistent, you’re well into a rhythm by now. If you’ve been spotty, this week is as good a place as any to get back on track.

The readings on the heavier days take about twenty minutes.

Most people who put it off end up spending more time thinking about whether to do it than it would have taken to just read it.

That’s not a knock. It’s just how it works.

The decision is harder than the reading.

Pick it up and keep going.

  • Two Different Things

    Two Different Things

There’s a difference between knowing what people say about the Bible and knowing what the Bible actually says.

A lot of people have the first without the second. They’ve heard sermons, read devotionals, absorbed other people’s takes on passages they’ve never actually sat down and read themselves. They have a general sense of what’s in there without much direct exposure to the text.

That’s not unusual. It’s actually pretty easy to end up there without realizing it.

This site is set up to close that gap. No interpretive layer between you and the reading. No notes at the bottom pointing you toward a conclusion. Just the text, the same way it’s been read for a long time by people who didn’t have access to anyone else’s explanation of it.

What you take away is yours. Not someone else’s summary of it.

That might feel less certain at first. You don’t get a clean takeaway handed to you at the end. But what builds up over time is something different from borrowed understanding. It’s your own.

Things will start to feel more normal this week, but it’s still summer.

Schedules are looser than usual and that’s fine. The readings don’t require a rigid routine to stay consistent, just a few minutes wherever they fit.

  • One Person

    One Person

You probably know at least one person who has mentioned wanting to read the Bible more.

Not in a dramatic way. Just in passing. Something like “I keep meaning to do that” or “I used to read it more.” It comes up and then it doesn’t go anywhere.

That’s not a motivation problem. Most of those people are reasonably motivated. They just don’t have a simple structure to follow, and building one from scratch never quite makes it to the top of the list.

You already found something that works. That’s the hard part. The easy part is sending a link.

You don’t need to frame it or explain it. Just send it and let them look at it. They’ll either use it or they won’t. Either way you spent about ten seconds.

  • Most Plans Punish You For Missing

Most Plans Punish You For Missing

Built-in catch-up days. Streak counters that reset. A schedule that assumes you never skip anything.

Most Bible reading plans are designed for ideal conditions. Which means they work fine until life gets in the way, and then they don’t work at all.

The problem isn’t missing a few days. The problem is what the plan does to you after you miss them. It shows you exactly how far behind you are. It implies you need to fix it before you can move forward. And somewhere between the math and the guilt, people just stop.

    This plan doesn’t do that.

There are no streak counters here. No record of what you missed. If you set it down for a month and pick it back up today, nothing looks different. You just read today’s Proverbs and work through this week’s readings. That’s it.

What you skipped isn’t gone. The plan runs on a yearly cycle. You’ll come back around to it.

The goal was never perfect completion. It was staying in it long enough for repetition to do something. You can’t do that if the plan drops you every time real life shows up.

    Readings for June 28 – July 4

This week ends on the 250th birthday of the country, which means a lot of people are going to have full schedules this weekend.

Barbecues, travel, family, all of it.

Worth getting the readings done early in the week if you can.

This week finishes Job and moves into Ecclesiastes. The next book is technically Proverbs, but since we read that daily, we’ll skip over it in the order.

  • Nobody Is Watching

    Nobody Is Watching

Nobody knows if you read today.

No accountability partner waiting on a check-in. No streak counter that resets when you miss a day. No group chat where someone will notice if you go quiet.

It’s just you and the reading.

Most people assume that’s a problem, that without some external pressure they won’t follow through. And maybe that’s true for some things. But I’ve watched the opposite play out enough times to think differently about it here.

When you read because someone is watching, you’re performing. When nobody is watching, you’re just reading. Those are different experiences, and over time they produce different results.

The habit that holds up over years isn’t the one built on accountability. It’s the one you do quietly, on your own, without anyone keeping score. That kind of habit doesn’t collapse when the accountability structure disappears, because it never depended on one.

There’s no record here of what you’ve read or skipped. No one tracking your progress. Whether you’ve been consistent for months or you’re just picking it back up today, it looks the same.

That’s not a flaw in the design.

    Readings for June 14 – June 20

    Readings For June 14-20

This week you finish Nehemiah, read through all of Esther, and start Job.

That’s a wider range than it might look like on paper. Nehemiah ends with some administrative detail and a dedication of the walls. Esther is something different. It reads like a short story, one of the more narrative books in the Bible. Clear characters, a plot that moves, a beginning and an end. You could finish the whole thing in one sitting if you wanted. Most people don’t, but it’s there.

Job starts at the end of the week. The opening sets up something that’s going to take a while. Don’t try to resolve it yet. Just read what’s there.

    Same structure as always.
