    There’s no commentary on this site. No devotional notes, no “what this really means,” nobody walking you through the passage before you get there yourself. That’s on purpose.

    Most places that talk about the Bible hand you a conclusion before you’ve read the text. A takeaway, an angle, something to agree with before you’ve even started. This site skips that step. You read the passage. That’s the whole interaction.

    Some days it’s clear. Some days it isn’t, and you finish the reading without a tidy point to walk away with. That’s not the plan failing. That’s the plan.

    Working out what a passage means on your own tends to stick longer than being told. No commentary. No agenda. Just the readings.

    You Don’t Need to Start in January

    January works fine. So does July.

    Most people who are waiting for January to start reading the Bible have been waiting for a while. Last January came and went. This one will too, probably, unless something changes before then.

    The appeal of January 1 is that it feels like a clean slate. You’re not behind yet. Everything is still possible. But that feeling lasts about a week, and then you’re just reading in January instead of July, which isn’t actually different in any way that matters.

    This plan runs on a yearly cycle and resets every January. Which means if you start now, you’ll come back around to what you missed. You’re not joining late. You’re just joining where we are.

    The middle of summer is actually a reasonable time to start. Schedules are a little looser. There’s less pressure than the fall and winter tend to bring. You’re not fighting holiday routines or end-of-year chaos.

    You just start with this week’s readings and keep going.

    The right time to start is when you decide to. That can be today.

  • Reading on Vacation

    Reading on Vacation

    I’ve got a trip coming up with my kids, so I’ve been thinking about this myself.

    The easy answer is to just skip it for the week. Vacation is vacation. But I’ve done that before and it’s never just one week. You come back and the rhythm is gone and getting back into it takes longer than it should.

    The readings are short enough that this doesn’t have to be a problem. Twenty minutes or less on the days with passages, five minutes on the others. That fits into most vacation days without competing with anything else. Early in the morning before anyone’s up, or at the end of the night. It doesn’t need a desk or a quiet room. Just a few minutes and whatever you’re reading on.

    The Proverbs chapter takes about five minutes on its own. If that’s all you get on a busy day, that’s fine. It’s not nothing.

    The people who stay consistent through vacations aren’t doing anything complicated. They’re just not treating the trip as a reason to stop, and they’re not trying to maintain some elaborate routine either. They find a small window and use it.

  • Two Different Things

    Two Different Things

    There’s a difference between knowing what people say about the Bible and knowing what the Bible actually says.

    A lot of people have the first without the second. They’ve heard sermons, read devotionals, absorbed other people’s takes on passages they’ve never actually sat down and read themselves. They have a general sense of what’s in there without much direct exposure to the text.

    That’s not unusual. It’s actually pretty easy to end up there without realizing it.

    This site is set up to close that gap. No interpretive layer between you and the reading. No notes at the bottom pointing you toward a conclusion. Just the text, the same way it’s been read for a long time by people who didn’t have access to anyone else’s explanation of it.

    What you take away is yours. Not someone else’s summary of it.

    That might feel less certain at first. You don’t get a clean takeaway handed to you at the end. But what builds up over time is something different from borrowed understanding. It’s your own.

  • Most Plans Punish You For Missing

    Most Plans Punish You For Missing

    Built-in catch-up days. Streak counters that reset. A schedule that assumes you never skip anything.

    Most Bible reading plans are designed for ideal conditions. Which means they work fine until life gets in the way, and then they don’t work at all.

    The problem isn’t missing a few days. The problem is what the plan does to you after you miss them. It shows you exactly how far behind you are. It implies you need to fix it before you can move forward. And somewhere between the math and the guilt, people just stop.

    This plan doesn’t do that.

    There are no streak counters here. No record of what you missed. If you set it down for a month and pick it back up today, nothing looks different. You just read today’s Proverbs and work through this week’s readings. That’s it.

    What you skipped isn’t gone. The plan runs on a yearly cycle. You’ll come back around to it.

    The goal was never perfect completion. It was staying in it long enough for repetition to do something. You can’t do that if the plan drops you every time real life shows up.
