  • Weekly Readings for 11/16–11/22

Every day this week you’ll read one chapter from Proverbs.

Easy rule: the date matches the chapter.
    (16th = Proverbs 16, 17th = Proverbs 17, and so on.)

Then read the additional chapters listed on each day. These are listed as Monday-Thursday, but just do it as you have time during the week.

Simple, steady, predictable — the whole point is to keep you in the Word without overthinking it.

    Proverbs 16
    Acts 24–27

    Proverbs 17
    Acts 28
    Romans 1–4

    Proverbs 18
    Romans 5–9

    Proverbs 19
    Romans 10–14

    Proverbs 20
(No additional assigned readings — built-in margin.)

    Proverbs 21
(No additional assigned readings — built-in margin.)

    Proverbs 22
(Another buffer day. Reread anything that stood out.)

If you fall behind, you don’t need to worry about catching up.

Just start back up with this week’s readings and keep going.

  • Don’t Wait – Start Now!

People ask if they should wait until January 1 so they can “start at the beginning.”

You can do what you want, but I’d say no.

If you’re new, the best thing is to just jump in with this week’s readings and go from there.

If you stick with the plan over time, you’ll read the entire Bible more than once anyway—so it really doesn’t matter where you start.

Your interest in reading the Bible probably won’t be any higher later than it is right now.

    It might even be less.

So don’t risk doing nothing by waiting for the “perfect” time.

You’ve seen how New Year’s resolutions go.

Once you decide to do something, your odds of success are much higher if you start now rather than waiting for tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year.

    Just start.

    See what happens.

It doesn’t cost anything but a little time.

And if you don’t like it, you can always go back to the old way.

Get all the weekly posts in your inbox. Or not. Just come back here and get them. Or just do what you want but keep reading!

  • How Do I Participate?

Before I get started with the actual plan, here’s the answers to some questions I get a lot:

Whichever one you want (or whichever one you have). Like I said, I’m no theologian. It could be that some are better than others. And as you go forward, you might find yourself wanting to try different versions where you can see how the wording differs.

But for now, use what you have. Or get one of the free Bible apps available for your phone, most of them include many versions.

Again, whichever you want. I read personally, but it also seems to work well to listen to an audio version while following along in print. The readings are broken down to make the spoken versions be short enough to fit your schedule. Depending on your reading speed you may be able to move even faster.

Every Day: Read one chapter of Proverbs corresponding with the day of them month (ie read chapter 5 on the 5th, etc). There are 31 chapters, in the months with 30 days read both chapters 30 and 31 on the 30th. This means you will read all the Proverbs 12 times over a year, steeping yourself in God’s Wisdom.

Every Week: Each week 4 readings will be posted. One Psalm each day until all 150 are done, then additional chapters totalling about 15-20 minutes. Read them as your schedule permits, but no more than one per day.

If you follow this plan, you will have read the entire Bible in one year. It takes about 5 minutes per day for the Proverbs readings, and 15-20 minutes for each of the weekly readings. Or less than 2 hours per week.

The weekly readings will be posted here each Sunday. Or sign up below to get them in your email as well:

PS- You can download the full reading plan as a PDF here — it’s the same every year.

You don’t even have to come back here if you don’t want to.

Print it, follow it, or share it with someone else.

You can even take it and start your own site if you want. No need to ask. Just keep people reading.

That said, I think the regular rhythm — the weekly posts, the sense that other people are reading along — helps you stay on track, even if you never actually meet or talk to anyone.

  • What Is This Site?

The Bible is the best selling book of all time. Almost everyone you know has one (or probably more than one).

Most people have never read it all the way through.

This doesn’t stop them from telling you what it says. Usually in an off putting way.

You’re pretty sure that what they are telling you might not be what it actually says. Or at least isn’t the correct context.

But you don’t really know for sure.

If you had read the Bible, you would know. Not to mention all the other benefits that come from regular Bible reading.

I’m no theologian or pastor. I’m just a guy, not even a particularly good one.

Years ago I made it a goal to read the entire Bible in a year. Then I did it the next, and the next, and the next. I’m not sure how many times it is now.

Does it make me better than anyone else? No. But it has helped me a lot.

It can be intimidating, I know.

But broken down properly it only takes a few minutes a day.

What you get is much more than what you put in.

This site isn’t here to explain the Bible to you, It’s here to help you read it.

No commentary. No “study guide.” No guy with a headset telling you what God really meant.

No flame wars in the comment section.

    Just Scripture, presented without comment.

Couple of things to remember. Most important:

Reading the Bible won’t bring you salvation. Only faith in Jesus can do that. But it will help you understand God, the world, and yourself.

    Also:

If you don’t understand something right away, that’s fine. Nobody does.

The point isn’t to win Bible trivia night — it’s to actually spend time with the text.

Keep reading. It makes more sense over time — and sometimes it changes you before you even realize it.

    That’s it. Start reading.

You don’t even really need this website to do that. Or you can just come back every Sunday.

But if you want to sign up, you’ll get the readings for each week (and more) in your email.
